Step-by-Step Guide: Launching a Christmas Campaign with Email, SMS, and Push

The holiday season is the perfect moment to reach customers with gift ideas and exclusive offers. This tutorial shows how to plan a multi-channel Christmas campaign with email, SMS, and push notifications. Drive engagement, inspire purchases, and make your brand stand out with CDP & CRM CareCloud.

PLANNING YOUR CAMPAIGN
Blossara, a fictional cosmetics brand, aims to capitalize on the holiday rush. Customers are actively searching for gifts and last-minute deals, so timing and relevance matter more than ever.
In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to define an audience, craft your messages across email, SMS, and push notifications, and plan campaigns for maximum impact. You’ll also learn how to use CareCloud features like Product feed in email template design and campaign calendar to optimize timing and personalization.
Our Christmas campaign will start on November 28th, when we send the first email, and end on December 22nd, when we send the push notification.

By following these steps, you’ll be ready to create a Christmas campaign that drives engagement and sales.
Let’s take the first step.
CHOOSE THE RIGHT AUDIENCE
Because we’re using three channels, we need a tailored audience for each.
First, let’s define the audience for email. During the Christmas season, customers receive numerous emails and may feel overwhelmed. We aim to reach as many customers as possible, while also avoiding spamming those who haven’t engaged with our brand recently. Therefore, we’ll target only customers who have made at least one purchase in the last year.
In CareCloud, navigate to Emailing and select Audience. Here, we will select the RFM criteria and then use the RFM Recency filter, setting it to a one-year period.

With the email audience ready, it’s time to set up the SMS audience.
For SMS, we will focus only on the most important customers identified using RFM segmentation. Let’s move to SMS and Audiences. This time, we will select customers by customer segments and badges, and pick the Champions (those with the highest score based on the RFM segmentation).

Last but not least, we’ll create a push notification audience targeting customers who made a purchase within the last year but have not yet interacted with this campaign.
To set it up, open Push notifications and go to Audiences. First, click on RFM criteria and set it to one year. This ensures we’re targeting customers with similar value and activity profiles.

Next, open the Purchasing Behavior. Here, we want to include only those who didn’t make any new purchases during the campaign period. Click on the “Number of transactions” and set it to 0. Then, choose “Period” and set the campaign dates (28.11.–22.12.).

That’s it. All three audiences are ready, and we can move on to the next part.
DESIGNING EMAIL CONTENT
It’s time to shape your message. We’ll prepare six templates in total: three for emails, two for SMS, and one for push notifications. Let’s start with the emails.
Christmas campaigns need thoughtful planning, and your emails are no exception. For this campaign, we’ll prepare three: the first with gift ideas, the second highlighting time-limited offers, and the third, sent in mid-December, featuring in-store gifts that customers can pick up without worrying about delivery times.
Let’s move to the Email Designer and start building the first email. Create the layout according to your brand style and add a festive touch that reflects the holiday season.
To make the message more relevant, include product recommendations using the Product feed. Select the right data source and choose items that your customers will love, ideally a balanced mix of gifts for women, men, and kids.

CREATING SMS MESSAGES
Creating an SMS is way easier than creating an email. Click on the SMS and choose SMS Campaign Template. Write down the name of the template.
Next, write your SMS text. Keep it short and clear, so customers can quickly read and act. Include a link to your e-shop using the Insert URL or URL shortener icon, so customers can purchase effortlessly, and you can track clicks.

Lastly, choose the communication language, and that is it. Your SMS is ready to be used in the campaign.

Finally, let’s move to the last step of this chapter.
WRITING THE PERFECT PUSH NOTIFICATION
Creating push notifications is just as easy as creating SMS. Fill in the name of the notification, the title, and the text.
Unlike SMS, push notifications don’t include a URL in the text. Instead, set the target destination under the Click action. We recommend linking it to a dedicated in-app screen with Christmas products you want to promote. Keeping your message clear and relevant will help boost engagement and conversions.

Now everything is ready, so we will move to the final part of this guide.
SCHEDULE CAMPAIGN
Timing is key for holiday campaigns. Here’s an example schedule:
- Start with the first email on November 28 (only email).
- Send a time-limited offer on December 9 (email and SMS).
- Follow up with gift tips on December 15 (email and SMS).
- Finish with a final push notification on December 22 (push notification).
This example illustrates a simple Christmas campaign, but you can adjust the number and type of messages to match your audience’s preferences. Many companies tend to overwhelm their customers with too many messages, so plan carefully to keep your communications relevant and engaging.
